Guideline

Nominations to The Commission on Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees are specified in The Commission policy, Standing Rules: The Commission Board of Trustees, Executive Council, and the College Delegate Assembly. In carrying out its responsibility, the Nominating Committee (Committee) of The Commission Board of Trustees is charged with assembling slates of nominees and will comply with the following guidelines:

For Nomination to The Commission Board of Trustees
  1. The Nominating Committee has ultimate responsibility for developing the slate of nominees for election to The Commission Board of Trustees.
  2. When developing the slate of nominees, the Committee will consider the types, levels, governance, and demography of the membership.
  3. It is the responsibility of the State Chair (Executive Council member) to poll the membership in his/her state and to solicit a diverse pool of nominees for election to The Commission Board of Trustees.
  4. Each State Chair will submit at least two (2), but not more than five (5), names for each The Commission Board of Trustees vacancy with the understanding that the Nominating Committee has the prerogative of nominating from the proposed names or any additional names.
  5. When a Trustee’s first term has expired, a vacancy on The Commission Board of Trustees occurs. Although renomination is not automatic, a Trustee may be renominated for a second term.
For Nomination to the Executive Council
  1. The Nominating Committee has sole responsibility for creating the slate of nominees for election to the Executive Council of The Commission Board of Trustees.
  2. When developing the slate of nominees, the Committee will consider the total membership and select representatives who reflect the composition of the membership.
  3. The Nominating Committee may select for nomination to the Executive Council those Trustees currently serving on The Commission Board of Trustees or those newly nominated to the Board.
