The Transfer Credit Consortium brings institutions together to build common transfer pathways for general education courses. Faculty from participating institutions identify shared learning outcomes and establish academically sound course equivalencies, then meet regularly to review and refine them.
The result is that work a student has already completed is more likely to count when they move between institutions.
Students who transfer lose an average of 43 percent of the credits they have already earned, according to research published by the U.S. Government Accountability Office. That loss costs students time and money, and for many of them it ends the degree entirely.
Millions of Americans have earned college credit without completing a credential. As students increasingly move between institutions, credit loss has become one of the most significant barriers to completion, affordability, and workforce readiness.
The pathways particularly benefit students who move between institutions for reasons beyond their control — including student-athletes, military families, and adult learners balancing work and school.
